The objective of these scholarships is to encourage and educate line workers for enduring and rewarding careers with an electric cooperative.

Scholarship Program

Big Horn Rural Electric Company, in cooperation with Basin Electric Power Cooperative, offers an educational scholarship to recognize and encourage the continuing education of the cooperative’s member-students. Applicant must be a dependent of a current member of Big Horn REA or a dependent of persons currently receiving electric service to their primary residence from Big Horn REA.

Mike Lowe Memorial Lineman Scholarship

In memory of Mike Lowe, the Board of Directors of Big Horn Rural Electric Company has designated a Mike Lowe Memorial Lineman Scholarship to encourage, promote and educate line workers for careers with Wyoming electric cooperatives. 

To be considered, applicants must dependant children or dependants persons currently receiving electric service from Big Horn REA, submit application, a resume describing education and work experience, and a transcript of grades.

Wyoming Rural Electric Association Lineman Scholarship

The WREA Linemen Scholarship offers scholarships each year to one or more individuals, including recent high school graduates, who are interested in a career as a lineworker and plan to attend an approved regional lineworker training program.

To be considered, applicants must submit the application form, a resume describing education and work experience, three letters of recommendation, and a transcript of grades. (If the candidate has not attended an educational institution in the three years prior to submitting the application, the transcript is not necessary.)

Dar Hackworth Lineman Scholarship

The WREA Suppliers group created the Dar Hackworth Linemen Scholarship in 2006 in memory of Dar Hackworth, an electrical lineworker with Garland Light & Power. The scholarship offers $1,000 to up to three students who plan to attend an approved regional lineworker training program.

To be considered, applicants must submit the application form, two letters of recommendation from teachers or employers, and a transcript of grades.

Adkins Lineworker Scholarship

Bill and Toni Adkins established the Adkins Linemen Scholarship in memory of their son Neil, who was killed in an automobile accident in June 2009 soon after beginning his career as a lineworker. The scholarship offers $500 to one individual who plans to attend an approved regional lineworker program. Bill and Toni hope this scholarship will help a deserving student achieve a successful career in the electric industry.

To be considered, applicants must submit the application form, two letters of recommendation from teachers or employers, and a transcript of grades.
